The opening scene of the Gladiator movie is one of the most memorable scenes for me. Perhaps it is because it reminds me of those beautiful summer days that are like a daydream.
The days of walks in the fields of barley, feeling the fresh breeze in my hair and the warmth of the sun on my face. Stretching my arms and running my hands through the grains swaying and bending in the wind. Feeling their tender touch on my fingertips and palms, and listening to the soft whisper carried across the shimmering waves of pure gold.
Like barley bending
In low fields by the sea,
Singing in hard wind
Ceaselessly;
Like barley bending
And rising again,
So would I, unbroken,
Rise from pain;
So would I softly,
Day long, night long,
Change my sorrow
Into song.
